No bake cookies from scratch

By

In my journey to cook more from scratch I brought back out my old recipe book. Now this is a recipe book that I made myself of my favorite recipes. I have no idea where these recipes came from. Well I mean I know that most came from my Mom, but I don’t know where she found them.

So for all to understand these aren’t my original recipes, but I also don’t know where the original recipe came from. I can’t give credit to the original person but I am grateful to whomever they may be.

  • 2 cups of sugar (.27 a cup)
  • 4 tbs cocoa (.07 a tsp)
  • 1 stick of butter (.74 a stick)
  • 1/2 cup of milk (.19 a cup)
  • 1 cup of peanut butter (1.76 a cup)
  • 1 tbs vanilla (.21 a tsp)
  • 3 cups of quick oats (1.04 a cup)

*Just a side note 3 tsp equals 1 tbs.*

In a saucepan bring to a boil sugar, cocoa, butter and milk. Let boil 3-4 minutes. Turn off heat. Then add peanut butter, vanilla and quick oats. On a sheet of wax paper drop mixture by the teaspoonful. Let cool and harden.

Total cost for this entire recipe is:

$.54 + $.84 + $.74 + $.10 + $1.76 + $.63 + $3.12 = $7.73

Now mine probably cost a little less than that as I make my own vanilla so my cost is quite a bit lower than .21 a tsp. The quick oats I bought awhile ago when it was on sale so I know I didn’t pay that much. But for the most part this is pretty accurate with the cost. We can usually get 2 1/2 – 3 dozen cookies out of this, but I’ll do the math of saying this recipe does 2 dozen jus to be conservative.

For 2 dozen no bakes cookies the cost is $.32 a cookie. If you go with the 3 dozen cookies is would be $.21 a cookie. That’s a great price for cookies that you know exactly what is in the cookie with no extra preservatives.

What is your favorite kind of cookie?
