How do you make taco salad? I always wonder how someone else makes it. I make mine the same way my mom made it for our family while I was growing up. It’s not the fancy layered taco salad that I tend to see at potlucks and holiday meals. But it’s what I know and it’s what I like.
So you ask how do I make it? Well here it is, simple quick and easy.
First I cook up the ground beef ($4.98 lb), then add the seasoning packet ($.89 each), add a little water with the seasoning pack (I never add as much water as called for). Mix well and set aside. Then I get the shredded lettuce ($2.00 a bag) out of the fridge (yes I bought shredded because I was trying to save my sanity). Throw the lettuce in a big bowl, add 8oz shredded cheese ($2.50 on sale), tomatoes ($.36 for one Roma, if your family likes them – mine does not so I have mine on the side), and crushed up nacho cheese doritos ($2.50 on sale). Mix together well. Then I add my french or catalina dressing ($2.00 on sale) and add the cooled taco meat in. Mix and serve. So yummy.
It’s that simple, nothing special and you can add or remove whatever items you don’t like. My family is not ones that like a lot of stuff in there salad, so we tend to be heavy handed with the taco meat. But if you prefer you could add black beans, corn, avocado, jalapeno, onion, maybe even some rice to bulk it up.
So how much does it cost to feed my family of 6 taco salad. Well lets do the math:
4.98+4.98+.89+2+2+2.50+.36+2.50+2.00=$22.21
22.21/6=$3.70
So for $3.70 a person we can eat a taco salad and as much as we want of it. It doesn’t go to waste and with growing kiddos they definitely eat more than a typical serving. Our servings tend to be larger than most so honestly this meal could probably be considered for 8-10 servings, but I will keep it at 6 because I know that is how many will be eating it.
Dinner doesn’t have to be extravagant and fancy every night. Simple and quick is needed more often than not in my house. I hope you found this helpful and I’ll talk to you again soon.
